Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth that can be removed. Depending on each individual patient case, they may receive a "complete" or "partial dentures". Full dentures are used when all of the natural teeth are removed and replaced with a full set of dentures.
Types of Dentures:
Conventional Full Dentures - This is when all the teeth are removed and the tissue is given time to heal before the dentures are placed. The complete denture will be delivered in four to six weeks, however, the denture will need to be relined in a couple of months as your gums and bone continue to heal.
Immediate Full Dentures - Prior to having your teeth removed, your dentist takes measurements and has dentures fitted for your mouth. After removing the teeth, the dentures are immediately placed in your mouth. The benefit is that you do not have to spend any time without teeth. A follow up visit will also be needed to reline the dentures as your gums and bone heals.
Partial Dentures-This is similar to a bridge, but it is not a permanent fixture in your mouth. The partial will fill in the spaces created by missing teeth or extracted teeth. It also prevents other teeth from shifting and super-erupting.
